Hey Q, Welcome to the club - you'll love your Apple. Drop me a line for questions - can't guarantee correct answers though - ngafinowitz@unc.edu. If you still need them, Fetch and Kompozer are all free downloads; just minimize them (orange button) when you're through then you won't have to searchfor them in Applications each time. Once you've taken your computer to IT (basement of Undergrad Library - fantastic people) to be enabled and had Microsoft installed FREE, you could use Notepad ++

I thought the animator vs. animation was very interesting and entertaining. It will be great if we can find more cool/fun/entertaining things like this that can be used for browsing during free time :)

You showed us this link in INLS 285 and I thought it was amazing..especially since it was created by two young 12 year olds. It shows the impact of technology and how our society is changing as time goes on.

I'd like to see more things like this :) :) :)

I read through the Economist article about how we have become slaves to our smart phones and realized that I had never even considered how smart phones blur the line between work and home. I'm so used to hearing the argument that smart phones detach us from the present and keep us from interacting with people in person, so it was interesting to read this additional argument which is also sad but true. Even as a high school student working at Jimmy Johns I felt this intrusion of work in my life, as co workers would text me around the clock asking for me to cover.

Google Politics and Elections is a step in the right direction for Google, as they're becoming a source of information rather than just a search engine. I like that the site provides information sorted by either candidate or topic, but wish that it had state specific information, too. I clicked NC and had hoped to read about Amendment 1, but it only looks like the site will offer information about state by state election results.

This sounds like it would've been an interesting lecture to attend. In my INLS 200 class, we recently talked about medical information and the push to digitize patient records. I hadn't considered that it could also be useful for doctors/researchers so they could identify common symptoms for certain diseases. My only concern is the security of the information.

The Shutdown Law (also known as the "Cinderella Law") is the brainchild of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MGEF). Although it only covered MMORPGs when first drafted earlier this year, the law now prevents those aged under 16 from playing various forms of online game during the shutdown period (the Play Station Network is already working to these new standards, and Xbox Live has been given a two-month "grace period" to teach its system how to track users' ages).
